“Meltem Şahin touched this monument poem exactly as I imagined it; came out the paintings that were created out of the sadness of female existence, integrating with nature and the cosmos. As we look at them, all of our female fragility is embodied, muscled, reincarnated and strengthened.”
Anıt Sayaç is a digital monument made by Zeren Göktan for the women who lost their lives due to male violence in Turkey. Aslı Serin and Birhan Keskin wrote a joint poem named after this digital monument in 2013 and published it on the website of 160. Kilometer. The poem has reached more than 20,000 readers to date. Meltem Şahin gave a live performance for Anıt Sayaç as part of Performistanbul's Stay LIVE at Home - Home Performances series and in collaboration with Border_less: She listened to the poem for an hour and a half and drew from the audio recordings of Birhan Keskin and Aslı Serin. Anıt Counter is now at the 160th kilometer with Meltem Şahin's drawings and design.
